Some things should never have had a toll booth.

Enclosure is old. A thing that belonged to everyone gets a fence, then a gate, then a price at the gate. The fence is called efficiency; the price is called value creation; the people who used to walk through freely are now called the market.

Not everything that can be owned should be. Some things work only when no one can charge at the door: the water, the commons, the square, the shared record of what we know. When they become extractive, the loving move is not to complain. It is to buy them back, into a form no one can enclose again.
